Frank Mossberg was an inventor and businessman in Attleboro, Massachusetts, a center for jewelry manufacturing in the 19th century. His earliest business venture was founded in 1889 as the Mossberg Wrench Company, and initially was a maker of tools for the jeweler's trade. In the early 1890s the company began producing several styles of adjustable bicycle wrenches, a type of tool very popular at the time. In 1899 Frank Mossberg and other investors founded the Frank Mossberg Company to manufacture tools, and the company began production of pipe wrenches, bicycle wrenches, and related tools.
The expansion of the automobile industry created great demand for automotive service tools, and in the years from 1910 to 1920 the Frank Mossberg Company became a significant maker of automotive specialty tools. These tools consisted primarily of fixed socket wrenches in many shapes and sizes, and Mossberg was probably second only to Walden-Worcester as a producer of such tools.
During the 1920s the company continued to expand its automotive service tools line. In 1927 the company was reorganized as the APCO-Mossberg Company, by merger with APCO.
The APCO-Mossberg name is still one synonymous with high quality and superior customer service.

In 1990, MET-L-FLO INC. recognized a need for plastic prototypes in production-like materials resulting in the subsidiary, PLAS-T-FLO. The goal was to create silicone molds from Stereolithography models and then create castings is a production-like material from the mold. As Stereolithography improved, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) began to purchase machines, resulting in a broader market scope for PLAS-T-FLO. After considering the best means to penetrate OEMs, it was determined that PLAS-T-FLO could use existing Vendor Codes to ease entrance into the OEM Market. For this reason, PLAS-T-FLO was dissolved and MET-L-FLO INC. began to service the prototyping industry. MET-L-FLO INC. was able to capitalize on their existing vendor codes and began to service large OEMs with silicone molds and urethanes. By April of 1996 the demand for plastics prototyping became so great that it justified the purchase of Stereolithography equipment. MET-L-FLO INC. was now able to provide Stereolithography services to the smaller OEMs that were not able to justify the large capital expense of purchasing their own prototyping equipment. It was at this time that MET-L-FLO INC. finalized the transition to a full service prototyping service center. The continued success of prototyping allowed MET-L-FLO INC. to focus all their efforts in this area and to discontinue the original forging support side of the company.

ABOUT SOLID CONCEPTS:
Solid Concepts, Inc. is a supplier of Rapid Prototyping (RP) and Design Direct Manufacturing (DDM) services. The RP and DDM technologies employed by Solid Concepts allow for cost effective low-volume production of plastic, urethane, composite and metal components directly from CAD data, resulting in significant time and cost savings. In this endeavor, Solid Concepts employs various state-of-the-art RP and DDM technologies including Stereolithography (SLA), Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), Thermo-Jet Modeling (TJM), and high speed Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machining.
These capabilities allow Solid Concepts to improve delivery schedules with reduced lead times by manufacturing component parts with low NRE expenditures (no tooling) as well as to manufacture prototypes and conceptual designs including form, fit, functional, and presentation models. Complementary capabilities include component painting, texture, and pad printing which allow Solid Concepts to offer low-volume production parts as well as master patterns and investment casting patterns for numerous metal foundries.
Solid Concepts has been in business since 1991. Solid Concepts is registered as a small business with 75,000 square feet of production capacity and 120 employees. The founders of Solid Concepts are patent invention holders for SLA and DDM technologies. Solid Concepts continues to develop advanced polymeric materials for use in the SLS and DDM process.
